STEEL ROPES
TYPES OF WIRE ROPE
There are many different types of wire rope, constructed with various strand formations, where the lay configuration can also be selected. All the different types of wire rope can potentially be adapted and used for different applications when working with cranes, mining, construction, lifting, fishing or marine use, agriculture, elevators, and more.
At M.E.C.I. srl you can find crane ropes, galvanized ropes, stainless steel wire ropes, PVC- and/or nylon-coated ropes. Depending on the application for which the wire rope is used, certain characteristics can improve flexibility, prevent twisting, allow elongation under load, prevent rotation, and minimize breakage.
General-purpose wire rope
This type of wire rope is suitable for a wide range of static and dynamic applications. We offer a wide range of wire ropes that are highly resistant to crushing, cutting, heat, and elongation. Their high strength and excellent ductility keep the ropes durable in many applications.
Crane wire rope
Generally, crane wire ropes can start from sizes of approximately 16 mm and above. Before purchasing this type of wire rope, several aspects must be considered:
1) The minimum breaking strength of the wire rope, which will depend on the working load and the safety factor you wish to apply.
2) Check the manual to find a complete description of the dimensions and construction that your crane requires to operate correctly.
3) It will be necessary to purchase a galvanized wire rope if it is used in corrosive environments. It is also possible to use a wire rope with a plastic-coated core if there is a risk that moisture may penetrate the wire rope.
4) Torsional moment and rotation must be carefully considered. When a wire rope is under load, this can cause two different effects. First, when both ends of a wire rope are fixed, the applied force causes twisting at the fixed points. Alternatively, the wire rope tends to rotate if one end of the rope is free and a load is attached, where the tendency to rotate increases with the load being supported and with height.
Anti-rotation wire rope
We offer wire ropes with two or three layers of anti-rotation strands. PVC-coated wire ropes are more suitable when used on pulleys in high-friction applications such as gym equipment, cranes, lifting equipment, conveyors, elevators, etc. The PVC coating helps protect the wires and strands from abrasion, making them more resistant to wear.
