WOOD SECTION
Since the second half of 2023, MECI srl, leveraging its sales department's extensive experience and strong demand, has expanded to include the packaging wood sector, fully covering both sea and road shipments. Furthermore, thanks to its partnerships with leading Italian sawmills, it can serve the construction industry, meeting the needs of an increasingly expanding market.
PACKING WOOD
Logs cut to size and machine-debarked, without further processing. The wood can be shaped into beams (girders) and planks (prismatic and sub-standard) in lengths ranging from 3 to 5 meters, or we also supply cut timber. This sector uses HT (heat treatment) (ISPM-15 heat treatment), which involves raising the core temperature of the wood to at least 56°C for a minimum of 30 minutes to eliminate any harmful organisms present in the wood. This type of wood is used for the construction of crates and pallets.
SOLID CARPENTRY TIMBER
Solid carpentry wood is mainly used for the renovation of old farmhouses, in very specific areas such as roofs and attics.
It is found in the form of beams, rafters, attic paneling, and scaffolding planks. Generally, it is all fresh material, meaning no drying is done, and very little time passes between sawing and installation. This is a very important step, as it is not dried and is subject to natural shrinkage due to the loss of internal moisture.
GLULAM FOR CONSTRUCTION
Glulam is a composite material, essentially made of natural wood, which retains the same advantages (e.g., high mechanical strength-to-weight ratio, slow combustion in the event of a fire); at the same time, it is an innovative industrial product that, through a technological pressure-gluing process, reduces and overcomes the inherent defects of solid wood.
The wood is placed in drying kilns and brought to the required moisture content for the required process. Drying is the process of achieving the wood's moisture content compatible with the type of glue and, above all, suitable for the intended use of the structures.
Glulam is the structural material par excellence. It is created by gluing together wooden planks that have already been classified for structural use. It is produced by reducing the trunk into strips—or slats—generally no wider than 20 mm (to prevent excessive deformation caused by shrinkage). The slats are then reassembled using hot glue and pressure, positioning them with opposing grains to ensure greater uniformity in the beam's strength. Elements of various shapes and sizes can be produced—the size of the tree is not a limit—optimizing the beam's mechanical performance.
The most commonly used species are conifers: spruce, fir, larch, pine, and Douglas fir. Sometimes broadleaf trees such as chestnut and oak are used.
CONSTRUCTION TIMBER
It's the raw material from which structures and construction projects are built, and it's used in formwork for reinforced concrete or scaffolding. We're talking about construction timber, commonly used in the building industry.
WOOD PANELS
A wood panel is a product composed of elements resulting from various woodworking techniques. They are obtained by gluing thin sheets of wood together. The panels are overlapped, crossing the grain, to compensate for the different behavior of the fibers along and across the grain.

WOODEN WEDGES
It is a wood material obtained from sawing processes, used as a technical support element in industrial and logistics sectors. It is used as a spacer, shim, or component for packaging and assembly. It is a small-section solid wood intended for practical and structural functions, where strength and ease of processing are essential requirements.
